Are you looking for a birthday gift for a diver in your world? There are lots of underwater toys for scuba available for you to choose from. Some are playthings, others are diving functional tools and equipment. Some of these items range from nice-to-have all the way to those “you gotta have this to dive here” type situations.
Some scuba diver gifts let the world know there’s an underwater enthusiast in their midst. Others just give a diver the chance to play, and have a little fun.
Here are 7 gift ideas for you to consider when the time comes for you to search for the right item for your scuba diver.
Diver Down Flags: When the dive site location is to a place where the boating is heavy divers need to display a flag. It lets the boat captains know that divers are in the water. Most places displaying the flag is mandated by law.
Two styles of flag exist. One (a red flag with a white diaganal stripe running from the upper left corner to the lower right corner) is the flag that we fly inside the borders of the United States (US).
Outside the US divers fly the International Dive Flag. The right side of this flag is blue, and the left side is white.
Flags come in different type configurations. Some are designed to fly from the flagpole of the dive boat. Others are attached to floats, and are towed by the divers below.
Jewelry: What is your diver’s favorite sea creature? I have a carved black shark that I favor. It hangs from a gold chain necklace. I think that gold really sets the black shark off nicely. I also have a couple of sting rays from Grand Cayman that hang from gold chains.
You can find scuba jewelry in the shape of sea turtles, divers, whale tales, mask and snorkel, dive fins, sea horses, dolphins, and many other pleasing designs.
Find the one that fits the fascination of your diver, and you can’t go wrong with a gift of scuba jewerlry.
Knives And Scuba Shears: Most every diver carries a dive knife. They’re handy for cutting yourself free of entangling vegetation and lines.
I know one lady who prefers dive shears. She says they cut through fishing line quicker than a dive knife. Although if you glance at her ankles when she’s geared up for a dive you’ll find the shears on one leg, and always a dive knife on the other.
Old habits are hard to lose sometimes.
Most divers are pleased when they receive a dive knife as a gift. When My grandson certified for open water I gave him his first knife as a certification present. He treasures that knife.
Dive Logs: Dive logs are much like jewelry as far as the assortment in designs.
You can get a log book with an underwater picture on it that shows your divers favorite scene. Does your diver enjoy shark diving? Get a log book with a shark on the cover. You’ll find designs with pirates, an octopus, turtles, and coral scenes.
Scuba Toys: These aren’t equipment for diving. But as scuba diver gifts scuba toys make fun presents. They give the diver something to occupy time on those between dive trips. Toys also make excellent display items for the office bookshelf.
Scuba Tools: Every once in a while some malfunction occurs. The diver discovers an air leak. Maybe an “O”-ring gets lost. Or some other need for minor repair pops up. At those times a scuba tool kit comes in handy.
Assemble a collection of tools and assorted “O”-rings, and you can’t go wrong.
Dive Watches: Every time a diver descends the length of the dive becomes important to health. Stay too long at a certain depth, and the diver risks decompression sickness.
A dive timer of some sort is always a must. Dive watches make perfect gifts for all divers. Some watches are both fancy and functional. Those are useful for keeping track of dive time, and for wearing to social affairs.
As a scuba diver I always appreciate when somebody gives me a dive related item of some sort. And whether it’s only a scuba plaything or a functional, and necessary, piece of scuba gear I’m always pleased with the scuba gift of an underwater toy.
