Scuba diving?
I want to find out the process of getting certified to scuba dive. How would i do this and can you give me webpages? Thank you very much.

admin answers:
You can’t get certified online because you must demonstrate your skills in water.
You need an instructor to lead you through the classroom, pool, and open water phases of the scuba certification training. You can get that through a local dive shop, or with the YMCA.
The most known dive training organizations are PADI, NAUI, SSI, and the YMCA.

What are the bends in scuba diving and how do they relate to Scuba diving?
What are the bends in scuba diving and how do they relate to Scuba diving? Please answer in a two or three paragraph response.

admin answers:
Bends, or decompression sickness, happens when a diver ascends too fast after a dive.
The water pressure increases as you descend. That pressure compresses the nitrogen gasses inside the body forcing it to form into tiny bubbles. As you ascend those nitrogen bubbles escape from the body. If you rise to the surface too fast the bubbles try to get out of your body too fast, and you get the bends.
When you time your ascent at no faster than three feet a minute, and pause for safety stops on the way up the nitrogen leaves your body slowly, and causes little risk of decompression sickness.

Jenny asks…
How long after reconstructive ACL surgery can I go scuba diving?
I am a healthy 17 year old female athlete. I recently tore my left ACL and will be recieving surgery. I have a scuba trip planned this summer in Hawaii. How long until I can go scuba diving after my surgery? I have already torn my ACL, PCL, and miniscus on my right knee and rocked physical therapy (planning to rock it again) but didn’t scuba at the time so I dont remember how long until I would be able to.

admin answers:
Remember that to dive you must carry quite a lot of weight. This can be minimized with the help of your dive buddy, and much of your equipment can be handed to you over the side of a dive boat.
I recommend you talk to your surgeon about this, and you can also check with DAN at: http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/faq/
